A no-fluff comparison of the five CISI qualifications you can prep for at FinStudyHub — with career-path guidance, syllabus weights, and honest picks depending on where you're going.
The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) publishes dozens of qualifications, but only a handful actually get taken at volume. This guide covers the five FinStudyHub prepares for — and the bundle packs that pair them at a discount.
Reading this in a hurry? Two-line summary:
CISI qualifications broadly cluster into three career tracks:
Every candidate typically starts with an entry-level qualification (IISI) unless they already have a related degree, then progresses to a specialist qualification (ICWIM for wealth, GFC or CFC for compliance), then to diploma-level or licensing exams if their role requires it.
The stack: IISI (optional if new) → GFC + CFC → CISI Diploma units later if you specialise in AML or regulatory analysis.
GFC gives you the international compliance framework (BCBS, IOSCO, MiFID II, FATCA, CRS). CFC gives you the AML/CFT specialisation (FATF Recs, POCA, sanctions, PEPs, SARs). Almost every compliance job description on LinkedIn asks for one or the other — and many ask for both. That's why we built the Compliance Officer Pack to bundle them at £79.
The stack: IISI (optional if new) → ICWIM → CISI Diploma units in Investment Theory / Equities / Bonds later.
ICWIM is the internationally-recognised wealth-management foundation. If you're headed to a Middle East private-banking role, ICWIM plus a Cat 5 licence (see next) is the standard stack.
The stack: ICWIM + UAE FRR = both required for Cat 5. Bundled at £79 in the Cat 5 Pack (save £19 vs buying separately).
ICWIM covers investment substance; UAE FRR covers the local Financial Rules & Regulations. Together they're the standard UAE licensing pair.
The stack: IISI alone (£29) is enough to test whether finance is for you and add a credential to your CV. If you like it, layer ICWIM or GFC on top.
IISI is broad and shallow across all major asset classes and market structures. Perfect starter kit for someone with no finance background — completable in ~4-6 weeks part-time.
The stack: CISI RFS (Risk in Financial Services) is the natural pick. We don't ship RFS yet — target build 2026. In the meantime, GFC covers a lot of the same governance material.

The three main paid alternatives in the CISI prep market:
| Provider | Typical cost per exam | Format | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| FinStudyHub | £29-£49 | Digital MCQ platform + walkthroughs + audio | Self-directed. No live tutor. |
| Fitch Learning | £300-£800 | Textbook + question bank + optional live classes | Corporate-priced. Comprehensive but bulky. |
| BPP | £400-£900 | Textbook + video lectures + practice exams | Traditional academic style. Time-heavy. |
| 7City / Fitch (bootcamps) | £1,000-£2,500 | Multi-day intensive in-person or virtual course | Fast but expensive. Best for employer-sponsored. |
The right choice depends on your situation. If your employer is paying and you have 5 days for a bootcamp, take one — you'll pass fast. If you're self-funded and prefer to revise around a full-time job, FinStudyHub is calibrated for that pattern (nights + weekends over 4-8 weeks).

Assuming 8-10 hours of study per week alongside a full-time job: IISI ~4 weeks · GFC ~6 weeks · CFC ~6 weeks · ICWIM ~8 weeks · UAE FRR ~5 weeks. Faster if you have prior finance background; slower if you're career-switching.
No. Each exam is standalone. Most candidates start with IISI as an entry credential, but you can go straight to ICWIM/GFC/CFC if you already have finance experience.
Different beasts. CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) is a multi-year, three-level programme aimed at investment analysts and portfolio managers — much broader and much heavier than any single CISI qualification. CISI qualifications are targeted at specific job functions (compliance, wealth management, licensing) and are typically completed in weeks or months, not years.
No. CISI accredits training providers (which we're not). We're an independent question bank + walkthrough platform, built by a candidate who's sat these exams. All questions are original — we don't reproduce past-paper content — but they're calibrated to the CISI syllabus and updated as regulations evolve.
Access doesn't expire, so you can revise for a re-sit at no extra cost. If your CISI-reported score suggests you weren't ready, drop us a note — we take the feedback seriously and use it to improve calibration.
The bundle packs (Cat 5 Pack, Compliance Officer Pack) are the built-in discount — £19 off vs buying separately. We don't currently run standalone discount codes.
